Midland to Manchester DVD

£11.00

During summer 2004, 125 Group was given exclusive authority by Midland Mainline to record the view from the cab of a Project Rio service.

In order to ‘keep the sun on our backs’ we nominated the 0900 from London St. Pancras as first choice train. On the day, there were two things that we desperately wanted to avoid, one was rain, the other a VP185! Fortunately the rain kept away and we were not disappointed with the set provided, 43198 leading and 43158 trailing gave a flawless performance. Despite a random signal check and some horses on the line, Leicester was reached early so we were away ‘right time’. Remarkably, the next time we stopped was in the platform at Manchester Piccadilly having run via the regular Rio route of the Erewash and Hope Valleys and then via Romiley as the Stockport area was blocked for West Coast Route Modernisation work.

Description

This DVD features the view from the cab of 43198 on a non-stop run between Leicester and Manchester whilst working a ‘Project Rio’ service in 2004.  This has been the only time HSTs have been booked to work scheduled services over the picturesque Hope Valley route; this film records the journey for you to enjoy.

After a short introduction to the HST and to Project Rio, our DVD shows the whole route, with no sections cut (even in tunnels!) and also includes some line side footage in the Hope Valley. Views from the cab en-route include the vast Toton Yard and Depot, passing Rio HSTs, splendid views of the scenic Hope Valley and even the NMT passing just south of Bradway Tunnel.

43198 was wired for sound prior to departure from St. Pancras and the sound track from the Valenta is awesome!

The DVDs are professionally pressed (not DVD-R) so will happily play on all systems.
